Romanian theatre returns to London, offered by the East European Cultural Centre and the Comedy Company. And not just any play, but a very current one.

We invite you to a show about us — those who have left, about roots, longing and hope, told with strength, sincerity and humour.

“The Emigrants” explores the life of Romanians far from home, in the middle of a seemingly banal universe, but laden with existential tensions: a supermarket basement in Germany becomes the stage where the story of two people unfolds who, although coming from different worlds — a worker who left for money and an intellectual who left for freedom and truth — share the same room, the same table and the same solitude. 

The show reveals that the pain of leaving Romania behind does not uproot us — on the contrary, it reminds us that our roots remain alive, they are not lost, even if distance temporarily separates us. With humor, irony and authentic emotion, the play reveals the sacrifices, the struggles, but also the satisfactions of emigrant life.
